On Monday 2nd January , 2023 the Canadian Coast Guard interim buoy tender/icebreaker CCGS JUDY LAMARSH was seen underway at the Welland Canal, Canada. She arrived in Canadian Waters back to January 2022 as the Kazakhstan flag fire fighting vessel MANGYSTAU-2 homeported at Aktau. She was built for the Caspian Offshore Construction at Kazakhstan.
She was built by STX Braila at Romania with yard number 741 with keel laid on 25th June 2010 and was launched on 11th October, 2010 as Aker ARC 104 design , icebreaking fire-fighting vessel.
In addition to CCGS JUDY LAMARSH ,the Canadian Coast Guard operates 4 other icebreakers converted from commercial icebreaking offshore vessels. She did conversion work at the Coast Guard’s Prescott, Ont., base and was renamed in October 2022.
