Palumbo Malta Shipyard – 330 m container ship CAPE SOUNIO from 28.07 to 10.08.2022

On Thursday 28th July, 2022 the 2017 built MLT flag 330 metre container ship CAPE SOUNIO entered Grand Harbour, Malta at 0753 hrs coming from OPL Malta but originally from Gioia Tauro, Italy bound for drydocking inside Dock 6 at Palumbo Malta Shipyard.

She was built in Philippines by Hanjin Subic Shipyard at Olongapo as yard number 116 for the Greek Shipping owner Costamare which currently she’s chartered to MSC until April 2031. She has 11,010 TEU capacity and she’s here for her 5 year complete survey as per SOLAS requirements. The dry dock survey includes maintenance of the hull, propeller, rudder etc. and other parts which are immersed in water and are normally inaccessible by staff when the ship is sailing.

On Wednesday 10th August upon the completion of the car carrier DONG A METIS of which she was overhanging whilst berthed at Magazine Wharf with breast and spring ropes tied to Dock 6 bullnose , the 330 m mother ship CAPE SOUNIO stated leaving Dock 6 assisted by 4 tugs of which 1 of them (SENGLEA) was mobilized from Marsaxlokk Harbour.

She passed breakwaters at 1459 hrs bound to Napoli, Italy with her ETA on Friday 12th August.
