One of the former British Forces vessels left in Malta and acquired for various services was the Harbour Defence Motor Launch (HDML) ML 1271 built in 1943 by and used as the fishing vessel MADONNA TA POMPEI F 14.

As HDML’s their numbers were from ML 1001 to ML 1600, designed by the Admiralty and built by 21 firms at home and 24 abroad with 46 tons displacement. All overseas boats were copper sheathed , hull sub-divided into eight compartments, two underslung rudders. She was ordered on 24th April 1942 and commissioned on 22nd April 1943 by David Hillyard at Littlehampton, Sussex, UK.

As the Maltese Fishing Vessel MADONNA TA POMPEI with fishing matricola F 14 she used to moor at IL-Maghluq Area , Marsaxlokk


In December 2007 she was spotted moored in front of Hardstanding Facilities of Marsaxlokk Fish port for demolition –
