The accident occurred on the left bank of the Sulinsky Canal, Romania due to a problem of the steering system. Regular shipping traffic continued as usual with a speed limit in the incident area. Tulcea Port Harbour Master dispatched a tug and crew to the site to assess the situation in terms of navigation safety. There were no injuries reported.

KALELI ANA was built in 1976 by Asakawa Shipbuilding at Imabari, Japan as the GERMA LORD trading until 1981; SIR GORDON until 1984; SANTA SOFIA until 1985 and SOFOULA until June 1991 and since renamed as KALELI ANA though with different owners and homeports/flags. Currently homeported at Moroni with Comoros Flag (COM).
