Palumbo Malta Shipyard – Tanker STENA PENGUIN from 08.09 to 15.09.2021

One of the Croatian built tankers from Stena Tankers seen in Malta was the 2010 built oil product tanker STENA PENGUIN which entered Malta on Wednesday 8th September coming from Algeciras, Spain passing breakwaters at 1435 hrs bound to Palumbo Malta Shipyard Dock 6.

She was built at Brodosplit in Sprit, Croatia as yard no 464 for a newbuilding price of $54,400,000 homeported at Hamilton with Bermuda (BMU) Flag and 740519 as official number within the Flag Shipping Registry. She was ordered on 29th March, 2006 with her keel laid on 3rd July, 2007. She was launched on 26th December 2009 and entered service a year later on 6th October 2010.

From a class of 10 tankers all built at Brodosplit only STENA PERROS was seen at Valletta for Malta Shipyards as BRODOSPLIT 446 back to October 2007. And another sistership STENA PRIMORSK was seen awaiting orders at Hurd Bank Area back to February 2012.

On Wednesday 15th September, 2021 at 1300 hrs a harbour pilot and 2 tugs PAWLINA and ST.ELMO were ordered so she can leave Dock 6. PAWLINA was fast to pull her from Dock at 1307 hrs with Pilot stating that she’s going to do engine runs but few seconds later it was stated that engine wasn’t ready. At 1312 hrs PAWLINA was ordered to go slow astern so that the engine will run smoothly of which by 1318 hrs she started leaving dock.

ST.ELMO was pushing her bow to turn the tanker in the fairway and once the tanker was underway, ST.ELMO went to port side due to no bow thruster

She left Grand Harbour at 1350 hrs bound to Bunkering Area 3 East.
