Naval News – Danish Royal Yacht HDMY DANNEBROG A 540 towed – 10.07.2021

On Saturday 10th July, 2021 the Royal Danish Yacht HDMY DANNEBROG A 540 called for assistance while sailing in the Skagerrak on her way to the Faroe Islands (of which the Queen Margrethe II will visit next week) after an engine failure.

The Iver Huitfeldt Class Frigate HDMS IVER HUITFELDT F 361 responded and started towing her to Frederikshavn. Neither the Queen nor Royal Family members were onboard. In addition to the Faroe Islands, the Queen will visit Greenland later this month during this year’s Commonwealth Cruise. Later in the year, the Queen is scheduled to visit Thisted and Esbjerg with the Royal Ship.

Until today, Wednesday 14th July HDMY DANNEBROG is still berthed at Frederikshavn Naval Base. It takes four days for the Royal Yacht to sail to the Faroe Islands, which is why it is no longer possible for the Queen to use her as a floating home during the visit to the Faroe Islands.
