Casualties – Cargo ship ALICA capsize – 26.04.2021

On Monday 26th April, 2021 the 1987 built cargo ship ALICA capsized at Ho Chi Minh Port, Nha Be, in Vietnam around 0900 LT Apr 26, shortly before sailing for Indonesia.

The ship rested on her bottom portside, with most of her hull and superstructure remaining above waterline. Of 54 containers on board, 18 slipped into water, some floating in the area, and some taken away by river stream. Obviously, it’s a stability loss, caused by faulty ballasting and cargo disposition.

Homeported at Ulaanbaatar (MNG Flag) she was built in Denmark as the Danish owned vessel ARKTIS TRADER trading until September 2002. With 2,470 dwt she’s 76 metres long with 12 metres beam and has a capacity of 96 TEU’s.

Below image is of her sister ARKTIS CARRIER berthed at Dwq 1, Grand Harbour, Malta back to 27th March 1996.
