Libyan Shipping – Marine Biology Research Vessel NOUR

One of the French built vessels around is the Libyan Research Vessel NOUR.

She was built for the French Government at Ateliers & Chantiers Auroux at Arcachon in France as Yard no 290 bearing the name of CYROS as a French Fishery Research Vessel. She’s ice strengthened and 48.70 metres long with 10.01 metres wide and a draught of 4.01 metres. She’s powered by 2 Duvant diesel engines with 1,380 bhp offering speed of 13.5 knots. With controllable pitch propeller she had the capacity of 164 tons of diesel oil as bunkers.

In 1993 she was sold to Marine Biology Research Center in Tripoli, Libya and was renamed as NOUR ( meaning light) with fishing registration as TP 876. In early 2000’s she used to come to Malta for repairs.
