Coast Guard – Guardia Costiera CP 265 in Spain for Frontex Joint Operation Poseidon – December 2020

On Wednesday 16th December, 2020 the Italian Coast Guard (Guardia Costiera) 200/S class patrol craft CP 265 who is normally based at Vibo Valentia in the Calabria region of southern Italy, near the Tyrrhenian Sea was berthed at the Spanish port of Ibiza in the Balearic Islands. Arrived from the Spanish port of Almeria, under the command of the Vibonese officer Paolo Fedele, the Italian naval unit was engaged in Frontex Joint Operation POSEIDON which the patrol boat was providing aid to several hundred of migrants carrying out 38 missions, and also proceeded with the arrest of seven alleged Human Traffickers.

This mission is part of the broader European program called Frontex (European Border and Coast Guard Agency) which is carried out in collaboration with the EU authorities and has the task of patrolling and controlling the flow of illegal immigration from the African coasts. towards the European coasts towards Lampedusa and in the Aegean sea between Greece and Turkey towards the Greek island of Lesbos.

CP 265 was commissioned on 21st February 2001 and like her 27 sisters she was built by Rodriquez Cantieri Navali Group (Messina) (now Intermarine Group)
