Cement Carriers – C3 RUBICON

On Saturday 14th November, 2020 a new cement carrier caller C3 RUBICON entered Grand Harbour, Malta in the afternoon shortly after the Grimaldi ropax vessel EUROCARGO VENEZIA left her berth.

She was built in 2000 as the MPP ship PALENCIA for Harren & Partner, Germany at the Selah Shipyard in Istanbul, Turkey trading until December 6th. Chartered to Zim Lines, Israel as ZIM KINGSTON IV trading until August 2004 and once again to H&P, Germany trading until December 2014 as CFS PALENCIA. Renamed PALENCIA was again until her current name as C3 RUBICON since 1st January, 2020.

The conversion was done at the Tersan Shipyard of Yalova in Turkey from a general cargo vessel to a self discharging pneumatic cement carrier with the FlexXVac®ECO system that reduces electrical power requirements by up to 35% compared to alternative systems, without compromising discharge performance.

She berthed at Laboratory Wharf inner to discharge cement at the cement Silo Terminal situated at the Valletta Gateway Terminals (VGT).
