Coast Guard – Tanker CAPTAIN KHAYYAM intercepted by the Libyan Coast Guard – 12.02.2016

Late night of Friday 12th February, 2016 the Libyan Coast Guard intercepted the 1975 built bunkering tanker CAPTAIN KHAYYAM on suspicion of illegally entering Libyan waters in an attempt to smuggle diesel fuel. She was stopped 25 nautical miles off Zuara from where she loaded 1,600 tons of gasoline.

Built in Bulgaria by Rousse Shipyard at Rousse as the Russian tanker PROMETEY she was sailing under a Sierre Leone flag (SLE) with a crew of nine including nationals of Turkey, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan, including one woman when stopped.
