On Monday 11th September, 2006 the 233.6m (loa) Chinese vessel ZHEN HUA 1 loaded with 6 RTG’s (rubber tyred gantry crane) arrived at Grand Harbour, Malta. Upon completion of discharging the 4 New Super Post-Panamax Gantry Cranes at Malta Freeport Terminal, the ship loaded 6 RTG units and transferred them to Valletta for Valletta Gateway Terminals Ltd (VGT).
She was assisted by local Tug Malta tugs LIENI and WENZINA wearing the blue livery.
Valletta Gateway Terminals (VGT) is a joint venture between Portek Group of Singapore and Tumas Group of Malta and was established on the 9th June 2006 after it was awarded the 30 year concession agreement to operate and manage the Grand Harbour Terminals. Being multi-purpose, the terminals can handle Roll On / Roll Off (RoRo) operations, trailers, Containers, Conventional Cargo and also vehicles.
The RTG’s were discharged at Laboratory Wharf and ZHEN HUA 1 left harbour empty on Wednesday 13th September, 2006 assisted by the same tugs LIENI and WENZINA.
