Casualties – RADCLIFFE R LATIMER disabled – 16.04.2020

On Thursday 16th April, 2020 the 1978 built Canadian flag (CAN) and owned self discharging bulk carrier RADCLIFFE R LATIMER lost propulsion at Welland Canal, Port Colborne, Canada while manoeuvring and had clutch problems since when an engine fails, the propeller stops spinning, but a neglected transmission could lock into forward or astern.

She was assisted by the British built Canadian owned tug LEONARD M with position at her stern. LEONARD M was built in 1986 by McTay Marine at Bromborough, Merseyside in England as POINT HALIFAX for Eastern Canada Towing Ltd (ECTUG). In April 2012 she was boat by McKeil Marine in Canada and renamed LEONARD M.

Assisting her bow was the fish tug JOHN D. Built in Port Dover, Ontario in 1943 she was rebuild in 1947 with 50.66 feet long, beam of 14.16 feet and maximum draft of 4.5 feet with 15 GRT.

Also in the area there was the 10 tonne bollard pull towing tug VAC owned by McKeil Marine.
