Offshore – MAERSK PROMOTER sold and renamed AMAZON CHIEFTAIN Z – Sept 2015

One of the offshore supply vessels that was sold by Maersk Supply Service (MSS) was the 15,600 BHP supply vessel MAERSK PROMOTER that was sold to Greece and renamed AMAZON CHIEFTAIN Z.

She was built in 1992 by Vard Soviknes at Sovik in Norway as 76 m long with 17.2m beam and maximum draft of 7.21 metres. Her engines were 2 x Wärtsila 8R32E 8 cyl 4 stroke diesel engines and 2 x Wärtsila 6R32E 6 cyl 4 stroke diesel engines therefore the output was 2 x 4,460 BHP + 2 x 3,340 BHP with a total of 15,600 BHP

Her bollard pull was 204 ts and homeported at Varde, Denmark. She was sold during September 2015

On Friday 30th October 2015 she was spotted crossing Marsaxlokk Harbour VTS area while proceeding to a bunkering operation.

    She was the First to break the 200 ton bollard pull limit. Registred pull 204,3 ton noted in guinnes book of records.
    I was onboard as 2nd eng during the last days of the yardstay before tanken over by Maersk Supply Service.
    A fantastic vessel👍👍👍😊
