Casualties – Yacht NERO listed in dry dock at Genoa, Italy – 10.09.2019

On Tuesday 10th September, 2019 around 1530 hrs local time the 2008 built superyacht NERO was listed in a dry dock at the Amico & Co refit yard in Genoa, Italy. It is thought to be caused by a support panel giving way as the yacht was being relaunched, local newspaper Primocanale.it reported of which NERO then listed to her port side and came to a rest at an angle of 30 degrees.

The crew safely left the yacht after the incident and there were no serious injuries sustained. According to the yacht’s management, Döhle Yachts, NERO didn’t contact the dock wall and appears to have suffered only minimal damage”. She is expected to be back in the water and ready to charter soon.

Surveys and inspections assessing the extent of the damage are still ongoing. The cause of the accident is also still under investigation.

Built in China by Yantai Raffles Shipyard at Shandong Peninsula, she features a master duplex suite with ensuite bath and shower rooms, a private sundeck and swimming pool. Guest accommodation includes two ‘VIP’ suites and two cabins. The yacht was inspired by J.P Morgan’s CORSAIR IV and commissioned by the designer Neil Taylor. He originally set out to restore a true classic, but when an acceptable donor couldn’t be found he decided to build a replica.

During 2016, NERO underwent an extensive eight-month refit after a change in ownership, which included a full repaint and brand new interiors by Italian designer Laura Pomponi.
