The Royal Navy Type 23 Class frigate HMS KENT F 78 left Portsmouth Naval Base, UK on Monday 12th August heading to the Gulf amid rising tensions with Iran.
Initially the frigate was due to patrol the region alone and provide regional maritime security. However, since the seizure of a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz the warship will also be escorting British flagged vessels through the Strait with the frigate HMS MONTROSE F 236.
HMS KENT will relieve destroyer HMS DUNCAN of her duties in the Gulf and is scheduled to work alongside US partners as part of the newly formed International Maritime Security Operation.
