Cmdr. Michael Johnson has been removed from command of the yet to be commissioned Littoral Combat Ship USS BILLINGS LCS 15, after the ship collided with the berthed 2007 built general cargo ship ROSAIRE A. DESCAGNES while leaving her berth at Montreal, Canada.
The incident happened on Monday 24th June when USS BILLINGS was leaving her berth with tug assistance. The Freedom variant LCS is en route to her future homeport in Mayport, USA after leaving shipbuilder Fincantieri Marinette Marine.
No injuries were reported to crew members aboard either ship with only minor damage above the waterline of the LCS . Witnesses said the USS BILLINGS lost control after the lines were let go and hit the vessel that was behind it, according to media reports.
