One of the Chinese vessels calling at Malta Freeport is the 280 metre long container ship XIN YAN TAI with her COSCO Blue Livery after the merger of China’s two state shipping giants – China Ocean Shipping Co (Group) or Cosco Group and China Shipping group (CSCL). The merger involved combining Cosco and China Shipping’Container Line to create the world’s fourth largest container shipping line, after AP Moller Maersk Group, Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC) and France’s CMA CGM SA.
XIN YAN TAI was built by Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group at Shanghai, China in 2005 with length as 279.6 m and a beam of 40.3 m’ Her container capacity is 5,668 TEU. Speed is 25.7 knots with a GRT of 66,452 tons.
