Ferry Service – Grimaldi introduces new ferry – MALTA EXPRESS – July 1999

On Friday 2nd July 1999, Grimaldi Group of Naples inaugurated a new passenger and car ferry service between Malta, mainland Italy and Spain using the Grimaldi ropax MALTA EXPRESS.

Inauguration took place at DWQ 4 in Valletta with Transport Minister Hon Censu Galea, Grimaldi Ferries Passenger Services Manager Mr. Hans Isler together with the local representatives for Grimaldi Group Mr. Ernest Sullivan and Joseph Sullivan, directors of Sullivan Maritime Ltd.

Built in France in 1980 she could carry 150 vehicles including trailers and 108 passengers. Passenger accommodation included 48 cabins, a restaurant, lounge, bar and sun deck. The vessel catering facilities were fully equipped to serve meals on a full board basis which was included in the fare. She was built as PORTO CARDO until 1999.
