Breaking Up – Oil Rig JACK BATES – Feb 2019

Early February 2019 the 1986 built semi-submersible drilling rig (SSDR) JACK BATES homeported at Vanuatu, Port Vila arrived for demolition at Alang, India.

She was built in Japan by Harima Heavy Industries at Tokyo as ZANE BARNES until 1993 from which she was moved from the US Gulf to Malta in 1992 and renamed JACK BATES. She was a Deepwater Floater with 30,000 ft as maximum drill depth .

IMO was 8755780 with 29,135 tons as GRT.

She was towed to Alang from Kakinada, India by the 2005 built tug BOKA SUMMIT (formerly FAIRMOUNT SUMMIT) – IMO 9315575; 75 m; 3,239 GRT.

And by the 2007 built tug FAIRMOUNT EXPEDITION – IMO 9358943; 75 m; 3,239 GRT.
